Is using a sealer necessary? when to use it and which sealer to use!

ARE SEALERS NECESSARY? when to use it and how to choose.

SEALERS VS IMPREGATORS

A sealer is a protector for natural stone. Our sealers are also known as impregnators, because they do not form a layer on the surface of the stone, but rather permeate its pores. The function of the impregnators is to encapsulate the liquids —called the mercury effect—. This allows you to clean up a liquid that has been spilled on the stone without running the risk of it leak.

WHICH TO CHOOSE DEPENDING ON THE PROJECT

There are two types of sealers: water-based and solvent-based. Water-based sealants are ideal for interior installations. Solvent-based ones are recommended for exteriors due to environmental conditions such as rain or UV rays. If the natural stone, in addition to remaining outdoors, is exposed to greater salinity, as is the case with constructions near the sea, we recommend applying a sealant resistant to this type of environment.

We did a case study with one of our certified sealer applicators. Here is what happened:

SEALERS LIFE SPAN

The average life of sealants is three years. This time may vary depending on the use and installation of the stone. If you notice that the stone absorbs liquids, slightly changed its hue or has the beginnings of mold, it requires the urgent application of a sealer.
